读者 Joe 来电邮问：on the edge和on edge 有什么分别？
Edge 是边缘。 一张纸可以有边，窗台也有边，甚至悬崖也有边。我们说 on the edge 的时候，是指这些实物的边。
例如：
A small ant is crawling along the edge of the table.
Don't walk on the edge of the cliff. It could be dangerous.
On edge 说的则不是实物的边缘，而是一种心理状态。一个人累了，然后喝了几罐红牛，再加上公私两忙，就难免心情紧张，动不动就大动肝火，又或者心神恍惚，战战兢兢，这种心理状态就是 on edge。
某甲近日和女朋友吵架，结果做事常常犯错，答非所问，老板得知原因后，把他召入办公室训话：
You'd better shape up, or out of the door you go. That'd give you a reason to be on edge.
别以为跟女朋友吵架有什么大不了，掉了工作的时候你就会知道什么叫 on edge。
